A Day on the Water

Every day is shaped by the ocean. Here's what a typical dive day looks like.

6:30 AM

Wake Up

Coffee and a light breakfast as the sun breaks over the Pacific. Gear check and load up.

7:30 AM

Boat Launch

Push off from the beach with your captain. Short run to the outer reef pass or offshore seamounts.

8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Morning Session

Peak diving conditions. Bluewater drops on the reef edge, targeting doggies, wahoo, and GTs where current meets structure.

12:30 PM

Lunch on the Boat

Pull into a lagoon. Fresh sashimi from the morning's catch, cold drinks, stories from the session.

1:30 – 4:00 PM

Afternoon Session

Reef hunting for coral trout and mackerel, or a second bluewater run if the pelagics are firing.

4:30 PM

Return to Base

Rinse gear, hang wetsuits, take the pool table challenge. Cold beers on the deck.

6:30 PM

Chef Dinner

Your catch prepared by our local chef — grilled, sashimi, kokoda. The freshest meal you'll ever eat.

8:30 PM

Kava & Stars

Wind down the Rotuma way. Share a bowl of kava under a sky full of stars. No light pollution out here.

What They Say

★★★★★

"The fish density at Rotuma is unlike anywhere I've dived in the Pacific. Dogtooth tuna on every drop, and the reef is completely virgin. This is what spearfishing was meant to be."

— Experienced Spearo, Sydney

★★★★★

"Terry and the boys made us feel like family. The lodge is incredible — solar-powered, A/C, proper beds. Then you wake up and you're 20 minutes from the best diving you've ever done."

— Group of 6, Melbourne

★★★★★

"Rotuma is the real deal. No crowds, no other boats, no pressure. Just you, the reef, and fish that have never seen a speargun. The kava nights were a bonus."

— Repeat Visitor, Gold Coast

★★★★★

"I've been on spearfishing trips across the Indo-Pacific and nothing compares to the isolation and abundance at Rotuma. The GTs here are fearless. Booking again for next season."

— Serious Spearo, Brisbane

Frequently Asked

Bring your own speargun, fins, mask, wetsuit, weight belt, and dive knife. We recommend a 1.3m+ rail gun for bluewater and a shorter reef gun. Floatlines, floats, and flashers are recommended. We can help source basic gear if needed — just ask when you enquire.
April through November offers the best conditions — calm seas, good visibility (20-40m+), and consistent pelagic activity. June to September is peak season for dogtooth tuna and wahoo. We don't run trips during the cyclone season (December – March).
Safety comes first. On days the ocean doesn't cooperate, we organise island experiences — hike Paho Mountain, visit Split Island, snorkel with manta rays in the lagoon, or explore Rotuman culture and villages. Weather days are often the most memorable.
Yes. Our local captain has decades of experience in Rotuma's waters. We carry safety gear, first aid, communication equipment, and oxygen on every trip. Rotuma is a peaceful, friendly island — the local community is welcoming and supportive of visitors.
Intermediate to advanced spearos will get the most from Rotuma's bluewater opportunities. That said, beginners with solid freediving fitness are welcome — we'll pair you with experienced divers and focus your sessions on reef hunting. Let us know your experience level when you enquire and we'll tailor accordingly.
A$500 per person deposit secures your dates, with the balance due 60 days before your trip. The deposit is non-refundable but transferable to alternative dates. Full refund (minus deposit) if cancelled more than 60 days out. We recommend travel insurance that covers trip cancellation.
